Maybe carrara would have held up better than the soapstone but i didn t want to put myself or my family through the stress of another high maintenance. While marble is most commonly available in white and lighter colors they are available in a much wider range than soapstone including green blue pink red and black. Different cuts of soapstone will contain varying degrees of talc. Soapstone is a softer stone and makes it more susceptible to scratches but there are many ways to overcome that weakness.

Then the soapstone will not disappoint. I wanted carrara marble like everyone else does it seems but i had read and heard too many stories about it s maintenance. Unlike other types of stone surfaces like granite or marble soapstone does not need a sealer because it is nonporous which makes it stain resistant not to mention naturally antimicrobial. The look tends to be more of a dull grey until it s oiled.

The higher the talc content in the soapstone the softer it is. Lighting cabinetry and flooring are all important in the kitchen but many designers say countertops often create the wow factor. The natural stone contains talc which makes it soft. Soapstone is timelessly elegant cleans up easily with soap and water doesn t stain and is not affected by chemicals acids or heat.
